Who Made It to Lalala Fest 2018? Here Are The Chosen Bands from Band Submission Category!
Lalala Fest 2018 is less than a month away and we are bursting with anticipation of watching Oh Wonder, Bondax, RKCB, and many more performers on the festival. But, wait, there is a new set of line-up that you should not miss. Hailing from Lalala Fest 2018’s band submission, four acts have battled it out to deserve a spot at Cikole Lembang, Bandung. These acts were picked by voting system that indicates the band’s popularity or their fans’ devotion towards them. On previous edition of Lalala Fest in 2016, several bands that made it to the festival have left their footprint on the music industry. There were ROBBRS, Esoteryc, Reality Club, Panorama, Glaskaca, The Schuberts and Fjord were chosen as the top 7 finalists. This year’s edition were reduced into four with Gabriel Mayo, Radak Banu, Dizzyhead, and Moko Discover led the popularity votes on Instagram. Let’s find out more about these new talents that might get their big break on Lalala Fest 2018.
1. Gabriel Mayo
Gabriel Mayo first entered the music scene as a drummer for Surabaya’s indie band called Vox. With this band, Mayo tried his luck in Jakarta without bearing any sweet result. He strayed from his original goal for a little while before decided to continue his journey in music. This time he chose to play guitar and sing by himself. According to an interview he did with Felix Dass on Qubicle, Mayo stated that there was no much change. He only tried to emphasize on his new identity as a soloist and it worked. His music derived from folk and with his acoustic guitar, he succeeded in capturing the listeners and he won the #1 spot on Lalala Fest 2018’s band submission. Check out his newest cheerful folk number “Think Twice” below.
2. Radak Banu
Radak Banu’s sound is rather unique in our opinion. Through their official profile, Radak Banu said that they try to mix ethnic musical influences and blues rock sound. They aim to fuse the popular genre that people love with traditional instruments that people nowadays rarely recognize. The addition of fun rock n’ roll vocal makes their music the one to go to, when you’re in the mood for dancing. Check out their work on “Sun of a Beach”.
3. Dizzyhead
Starting out from the solo project of Hanifa Miryami, the surf pop band hailing from Malang became a full band format in 2017. Dizzyhead are now comprised of Hanifa (vocal), Oddy (guitar, backing vocal), Lutfi (guitar), Baron (bass) and Zulfan (drum). They have just released their album on cassette tapes called “Good Ol’ Days” via Pop Flesh Records. They bring easy listening music with an edge that might be right up on your alley. Check out their second single and music video for “Shiver” below.
4. Moko Discover
Moko Discover is not a solo act, it’s a collective comprised of producers and visual artists. Together they create music and art direction for singers or solo acts like Ayub Jonn, Juan Of A Kind, Boyd, or Rookie. Hailing from Bandung, the act is probably the least known compared to other winners. Nonetheless, they create a good quality music that you can check out like “One Touch of Unreality” album here. Psst, they have opened for Australian electronic act, Miami Horror, when they performed last year in Bandung. Make sure you catch their acts, you might discover new sounds and new music from these bands!
