Listen to The Glorious New Tune by Oscar Lolang, “Clouds of Jakarta”
Oscar Lolang have graced us with beautiful songs like “Little Sunny Girl” or “Eastern Man” from previous EP, but he does not stop there. The folk singer-songwriter is currently preparing his debut full-length album in August via Karma Records and he gives us a new single titled “Clouds of Jakarta”. The track which taken from the album “Drowning in A Shallow Water” is an ode to Oscar’s hometown, Jakarta. As the citizen of one of the busiest city in the archipelago, its continuous buzz always gives different impression to the city dwellers. In Jakarta, which is a complex entity according to the singer, Oscar incorporates various ironies delivered in rather cynical lyrics. The song starts off with a pretty long guitar rendition which makes your minds wander far far away to the polluted clouds of the capital city. Even in the intro, the song already builds dynamic and it is something new from Oscar Lolang. The method reminds us a bit of Simon & Garfunkel’s tunes with a heavier and bolder sound a la Nick Drake. This song sounds a tad bit depressing and it might suit those who often occupy their minds with intriguing and contemplative thoughts.
This song was produced by Dimas Ramdhan and he was the one who is responsible for a slight change in Oscar Lolang’s music and we like what we listen. “This song is chosen as my first single as an introduction for my debut album which can reflect the word Drowning in A Shallow Water the best. At one point, I feel that Jakarta is inviting us to come and own it by force, but there is no warmth there. I couldn’t grasp a lot of things, and I’m drowning in it,” said Oscar. An official audio with video was uploaded onto Karma Records Youtube account for “Clouds of Jakarta”, and it shows video footage of moving clouds and vintage videos. The video was created by Dhiwangkara Seta & Dian Tamara. “This song might give you a glimpse of how Drowning in A Shallow Water would sound. This song also serves as a threshold which invites the listener to hear more surprises inside,” Dhiwangkara Seta closes, a representative of Karma Records in a press release we received. The song can be streamed through various digital outlets like Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and many more. Can’t wait for his full album to drop.
