  1. Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival (March)

The biggest annual jazz festival is back in 2017 with stunning line-up for their 13th edition. Without a doubt, Java Jazz has established itself as a provider of high quality jazz performances from local and international musicians. Having held a steady popularity throughout the year, the three-day celebration has always been guaranteed to generate a lot of crowd. This year’s event includes performances from Blood Sweat and Tears, Incognito, Arturo Sandoval, Paulinho Garcia, and many more. Indonesia artists line up haven’t been confirmed yet, but we see some interesting names on the wishlist. The tickets are sold from IDR 500,000 for daily pass, and IDR 1,200,000 for 3-day pass. You’d better save up some money to see these world-class jazz musicians!

One week after Java Jazz Festival, Jakarta’s music enthusiast will once again get pampered with another great music festival. The students of Business and Economy faculty of Universitas Indonesia, or their BSO Band in particular, will hold their annual music gallery which has reached its seventh edition in 2017. 7th Music Gallery per usual will include both local and international acts. Previous editions of Music Gallery have successfully invited international indie darlings such as Last Dinosaur and Tahiti 80. Morfem, White Shoes & The Couples Company, Barasuara, Danilla are just a few names that were involved in the past installments. The acts that have been confirmed to perform so far are Seringai, Polka Wars, Bedchamber, and The Trees and The Wild. This event will be an oasis for indie music lovers.   1. Folk Music Festival 2017 (Prediction: February – April)

Folk Music Festival held by Sats.Co is a new kid on the block compared to other festivals on this list. Having had their first edition held in 2016 at Lembah Dieng Malang, they rose in popularity with their outdoor and close to nature concept. FMF presents talented folk musicians from Indonesia and on their debut event, Malaysian folk singer, Liyana Fizi also had a chance to perform on stage and even did a duet. The high enthusiasm on the past event will surely make the second edition become bigger and better. The festival also establishes Malang as one of the great host city to hold a music festival. What they got in store for next year’s FMF? We’ll see

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore is the first stop for a big music festival held in early 2017. Starting their journey in Australia in 2005, this will be their 12th edition. Laneway has established themselves as the “it” music festival in Southeast Asia by holding their first event in Singapore in 2011. Prominent international acts are always a staple in the celebration of Laneway. They also do not forget to include Singaporean and Asian musicians this time. The 2017 edition will have AURORA, Jagwar Ma, Bob Moses, Sampa The Great, Mr. Carmack and many more as their international guests. Bottlesmoker and Stars & Rabbit will also be the representatives from Indonesia. Laneway which many deemed as the Coachella of Southeast Asia will be held at The Meadow on Gardens By The Bay.
