Speak Percussion perform “Fluorophone” & “Transducer”, captivating music repertoire
We arrived on SIP Fest at Galeri Salihara last Wednesday (10/19) to witness a music performance by a group from Australia called Speak Percussion. Coming with an expectation to watch a lot of percussive instrumentals in traditional sense, we were surprised that the performance was far beyond our initial thought. The group brought two repertoires titled “Fluorophone” and “Transducer” for their show in Indonesia.
“Fluorophone” brings an experience of lighting and music combined until they come together as one. One of the composition called “Pyrite Gland” was inspired by a fictional character named Dong from The Quangle Wangle’s Head by Edward Lear. “Transducer” further proved that the group experiment a lot with their music by using a microphone as a musical instrument. The microphone was then used to manipulate acoustic and electronic sounds. The music that they presented was complicated and hard to digest, but it was too captivating to be overlooked. It was like we were in spell listening to it.
Speak Percussion itself is a world acclaimed experimental group that have received several renown awards like AMC/APRA Art Award, Green Room Award (2014) and Melbourne Fringe Festival Best Music Award (2012).
