Jerry Paper Will Set Foot in Jakarta For A Live Performance!
The name Jerry Paper might not be familiar to you yet. But we’ve been keeping an eye on him since 2016 after he released a single called “Ginger & Ruth”. The songwriter, singer, and producer whose real name is Lucas Nathan is scheduled to do a live performance in the capital city of Indonesia this July. Having been producing his own kind of electronic music since 2009, Jerry Paper had participated in several projects like Zonotope, and a noise unit Diane Kensington Devotional Band. However, under the moniker Jerry Paper, Lucas has found more attention and positive feedback from the critics and his peers. We have mentioned on our previous article, that his lo-fi/electronic approach reminds us to Mac DeMarco and alas, the man has toured with Mac in 2015. He has also toured alongside BADBADNOTGOOD and Mild High Club in the past few years. While at the same time keeping his musical project alive by collaborating with Odd Future’s leader – Tyler, The Creator on “The Grinch” original soundtrack last year.
His coming to Indonesia will be hosted by Noisewhore as a part of their Noisewhore Live program that has managed to invite some of the biggest and hottest names on indie music in these past years. For his upcoming tour in Asia, Jerry Paper will introduce the audience to his latest record released in 2018 called “Like A Baby”. The record also became his first release under his new label Stones Throw. The California based label is home to legendary artists like NxWorries, J Dilla, Knxwledge, Mad Villain, and many more. The album becomes Jerry Paper’s fourth discography which includes an ecclectic take on various genres. You can hear a fusion of electronic, R&B, funk, psychedelic in this album. It also boasts collaborations with Weyes Blood, Charlotte Day Wilson, and Mild High Club. “Grey Area” which features Weyes’ gorgeous adlib, and “A Moment” that has a little reggae influence on it become our favorites from the album.
The show will be held on June 19, 2019 at Rossi Musik Fatmawati, Jakarta. It could happen due to collaboration from Stones Throw Records and Noisewhore. “It certainly is something special. We’ve been focusing on bringing smaller acts and innovate through our curation of artists. Bringing the legendary label Stones Throw and Jerry Paper for our second show of the year surely means everything to us,” said Argia of Noisewhore. You can secure a spot in this gig by purchasing the ticket for IDR350K on noisewhore.com/shows/.
