“In Blue” and “We Need Your Vote” Warm Up Europe on Screen 2019
JAKARTA – A week prior to the main festivity of Europe On Screen 2019, the members of the press were honored to watch two selected movies titled “In Blue” and “We Need Your Vote”. Through a press screening held at Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) Thamrin, the committee of Europe On Screen showcased a taste of the upcoming film festival. “In Blue” which is a drama movie from Dutch filmmaker Jaap van Heusden tells a story of a 40-year old stewardess who bonded over a complicated relationship with a homeless teenager. After assisting an emergency birth on a plane, Lin (Maria Kraakman) recalled about her past experience. The occasion led her to meet a teenage boy who lives in the streets of Bucharest. Both shared a different view of one another, that resulted in a different way of handling their complex relationship. Watching this drama made us think about a maternal feeling that could emerge in the weirdest way possible.
After going through a rollercoaster of feels with “In Blue”, it was the turn for French comedy movie which is internationally titled as “We Need Your Vote” to entertain the audience. Directed by Mathieu Sapin, the film is a comedic as well as a grim portrayal of a competitive political election. Through satire and comedic remarks, winning an election took a lot more effort than going on a campaign rally. The use of cunning, deception and black campaign was more customary to the political system than we initially believed. Watching “We Need Your Vote” hit so close to our minds since the presidential election of Indonesia is just around the corner. Who knows that these calculated moves shown in this movie can actually be practiced here. Furthermore, Europe On Screen also introduced their special program for this year’s edition including Retrospective: #Bauhaus100 that celebrates the 100th year of design school from Germany called Bauhaus. Nine projects for Short Film Pitching Program (SFPP) were also announced that will later be cut down into three finalists.
