Marlina, The Murderer in Four Acts Swept Victories on Citra Awards 2018
JAKARTA (9/12) – After announcing the nominations a couple of months ago, Festival Film Indonesia or also known as Piala Citra (Citra Awards) 2018 was held last night in Jakarta. “Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts” swept away the victories in most categories it was nominated in. The film which was directed by Mouly Surya also managed to snatch the highest and most prestigious title of the night for Best Picture/Long Form Movie. In total, the film won 10 awards including Best Leading Actress for Marsha Timothy, Best Director for Mouly Surya, and Best Supporting Actress for Dea Panendra. Marlina’s record was followed by “Wiro Sableng Pendekar Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212” who won 3 awards that were dominated by its technical aspects as well as “Aruna dan Lidahnya” that won 2 awards. Held at Taman Ismail Marzuki, most of the nominees, guests, and committees were clad in Indonesia’s traditional cloth as it was the dress code for the night.

The awards mark the return of the main ceremony in Jakarta after it was held in other regions of Indonesia in the past two years. The sweet victory of “Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts” also marks Mouly Surya’s second win as a director after she won the same title in 2008 for her film “Fiksi”. Some surprises also arose during the awarding the night that included that victory of Gading Marten as the Best Leading Actor for his role as Richard in “Love for Sale”. FYI, this film was the first time that Gading Marten was appointed as the male lead. On his victory speech, he dedicated the awards to his father who is no other than a legendary actor, Roy Marten. The first winner for Best Make-Up which is a new nomination of this festival was Jerry Oktavianus for his work on “Wiro Sableng”. Some of the winners didn’t attend the show including Nicholas Saputra, who was known to despise the awards a few years back for its unhealthy judging system.
