Sound From The Garden by Houtenhand Garten Warmed Up The Cold Night

Malang greater area has been hit with the cold breeze lately and the fact that the temperature drops several degrees did not stop some youth to gather at Houtenhand Garten, a beer garden located at Sengkaling, Malang. They were there to watch a gig titled “Sound From The Garden”. Powered by GoAheadPeople, the event was meant to record the live performances from the finest indie acts from Malang. There were Ajer, Beeswax, Christabel Annora, Coldiac, Closure, Monohero, and Young Savages. It was also held in conjunction with a photo exhibition from Polka Wars, who release their single with a unique photo exhibition concept. Starting out an hour later than the schedule, the show was opened by the performance from Christabel Annora who performed songs from her “Talking Days” album. The air grew more chill by the night, and her voice lulled us into a warm safe place. The music was continued by a new post-punk act named Closure. They brought songs from their EP and upcoming album that has not had a release date yet.

Young Savages

The crowd got more pumped up with the performance from Young Savages with their Britpop and indie rock flair. Something looked a little different from Young Savages as we could see Tiara who is usually at the keyboard was replaced temporarily by an additional. Young Savages sang their singles and also songs from upcoming album “2000’s Kids”. Beeswax followed up next by performing 7 songs in total. The emo band rocked the stage with their singles like “Bleed”, “Start The Line, Break It All” and many more. With a short break between acts, the audience were encouraged to see the photo exhibition by Polka Wars. It turned out that the photo was displayed on a calendar-like format. People could get a taste of Polka Wars’ new single by tearing up a piece of the photograph. Behind it, there is a code which you should scratch first. Afterwards, it will lead you to some steps to unveil their single titled “Rangkum”. With liquors and warm beverage to make the frosty weather bearable, the music led to Ajer.

The acoustic group have not performed live for quite some time, and it became their reunion show. Next up, Coldiac who have just released their new single “Wreck This Journal” heated it up with their live set. They were all smiles while performing songs from their full lenght debut album as well. Last but not least, psychedelic ambient unit Monohero closed the stage. As usual, a gorgeous visual mapping was mandatory for their stage. All seven performers have their own kind of music and characters, so the whole event did not bore us. Later on, the performances will be repressed on physical format and labeled as “Sound From The Garden Vol.1”. Hopefully there will be more episodes and the gig will become a regular event from Houtenhand Garten.
