An Ode for Abused Women by Oscar Lolang Titled “Little Sunny Girl”
Folk singer-songwriter, Oscar Lolang unveils his second single today, on January 12th that is titled “Little Sunny Girl”. The musician recently has been traveling back and forth to Jakarta and Bandung to do live performances, despite the packed schedule he finally finds the perfect time to introduce this single. Previously, he has earned positive review and warm welcome from the indie music scene after debuting with “Eastern Man”. His first single depicts his restlessness about the life of Papua’s people, the residents of the most eastern part of this country. The 23-year-old musician is said to bring a breath of fresh air in Indonesia’s folk music. His approach in songwriting and the theme that he spotlights in his songs are unique and it touches the topic of social issues that often get ignored by the society. The same formula is applied in his latest single “Little Sunny Girl”.
The single was initially inspired by the story of Yuyun, a victim of sickening rape that got nationwide coverage for its brutality. The idea developed into something wider and he decided that the issue of domestic abuse was worth mentioning. A female figure who is often disrespected and abused by the reality became the inspiration of this song. “Beforehand I wrote this song as a response to Yuyun’s case, but then the idea developed to discussion about domestic abuse. Yes in the end, this song is dedicated to all wounded women around the world,” explains Oscar. The powerful theme is wrapped in guitar driven folk ballad that is both moving and resonates within our hearts. We believe that a music video for this beautiful piece is appropriate, and worry not, it’s coming in mid-January via Karma Records’ Youtube channel.

Oscar Lolang and Karma Records collaborate with talented artist, singer, and songwriter Vira Talisa to create an illustrated artwork for “Little Sunny Girl”. Meanwhile, Dian Tamara is appointed as the director of the music video. She aims to offer a different perspective, in which a letter is dedicated towards all women who suffer from abuse in a relationship. The director said that she was inspired after listening the song and reading the meaning behind “Little Sunny Girl”. She wants to describe a situation when a woman has to put aside the reality, even though she was tormented. The depicted female character creates this beautiful imaginary world and fools herself that she is happy in a toxic relationship. Furthermore, the release of “Little Sunny Girl” is the first step to the launch of Oscar Lolang’s mini album titled “Epilogue”. The mini album is dropping on May 2017 via Karma Records.
