Welcoming Joyland Sessions, A Brand New Festival Format by Plainsong Live
[JAKARTA] – In August 11th, Plainsong Live delivered a heartbreaking news that its renown Joyland Festival Jakarta 2025 is officially cancelled. Citing various reasons, the organizers promised refunds to thousands of ticket holders. Festivalgoers seemed to have come to terms with the cancellation, until on September 10th, they uploaded a cryptic message that hinted an upcoming motion was brewing. Then a week later, they introduced a brand new format of Joyland called Joyland Sessions. The event which was held in a smaller, more intimate, and with fewer guest stars will take place on 29 – 30 November 2025 at Senayan Jakarta. Confirmed line-up for the festival includes international acts like TV Girl (US), L’impératrice (France), Bright Eyes (US), The Pains of Being Pure At Heart (US), Soccer Mommy (US), Luna Li (Canada), Oddisee & Good Cmpny (US) and a slew of selected local artists like Bernadya, Ali, Galdive, Jirapah, Reality Club, The Cottons and Thee Marloes.
In an interview with Pophariini, Ferry Dermawan, Program Director of Plainsong Live, shared insights into the new format stating that this format is more compact compared to previous Joyland festival. It features smaller venue, shorter periods, fewer artists, as well as fewer supporting programs. “All of these performers were already under contract for Joyland Festival 2025. We wanted to honor those commitments, maintain good relationships with booking agents, and adapt to a more feasible concert format during these challenging times. Nearly all of the international artists will be performing in Indonesia for the first time, except for The Pains of Being Pure At Heart,” Ferry explained. Tickets for the two-day affair have already been on sale for IDR1.088.000 for two day pass. Daily tickets pass have yet to be announced, so keep your eyes peeled to Joyland Festival’s official website and Instagram.
