Review: “Knives Out” Delivers Twists After Twists Eloquently
Reading the name Rian Johnson, the first thing that popped out of our head was Star Wars. Moving away from his big budget project on the renown franchise, Rian Johnson came up with a brand new project this year called “Knives Out”. It stars some of familiar faces you might have known before like Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and many more. “Knives Out” tells the story of Harlan Thrombey, a mystery novelist who had reached an old age. Receiving so much fortune for his work, Thrombey built an empire that could feed his whole family. One day after his birthday, he was found dead on his study room. Bewildered by his choice to end his own life despite much fortune and seemingly loving family, detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) smelled something fishy. He suspected that Harlan’s death was much more than a suicide. His family members and personal caregiver, Marta (Ana de Armas) became the top suspects and we were in for a journey to unveil the real truth.
“Knives Out” reminded us so much of how a crime story could be delivered in such entertaining tone. There was no over-the-top mission that required sophisticated technology to uncover the truth. It was simply a good ol’ detective works, alibis analysis from each suspect, and a lot more family drama. There were more than one twist that was served throughout this 2 hour and 10 minute film. Worry not, when the story came full circle, the audience was given a simple explanation that provided an understanding. Chris Evans somehow became a charming bully that showcase his bad boy aura as Ransom. Altogether, “Knives Out” proves that sometimes blood related folks aren’t what you think they are. We’re finding ourselves rooting and cheering for the heroine in the end. The movie is currently aired in various cinemas across the nation. Go watch it if you love detective/crime movies or need a good silly laugh.
