Barasuara Don’t Take Themselves Too Seriously on “Pikiran dan Perjalanan” Video
We often see Barasuara being all badass and serious on stage. Even though their antics might be rock n roll, they rarely throw jokes or show their silly side while performing. It all changed with the release of their latest music video for “Pikiran dan Perjalanan”. The video of the single taken from their sophomore album of the same name took a 180 degree turn from their previous lead single “Guna Manusia”. If “Guna Manusia” video is all about philosophy and deeper thoughts, then “Pikiran dan Perjalanan” showcased that this band is just like any other clique out there who love to make fun of themselves. The visual was directed by Rio Alhasymi (@ryodoy) who is no other than Puti Chitara’s husband. This might be hugely inspired by a video game which was popular in the early 2000 called Crash Team Racing or Mario Kart. Each member wears a unique outfit while racing on a go-kart to prove who is the fastest of them all. It’s a combination between slow motion, animated motion graphics, and the band making fun of themselves.
Iga Massardi (vokal, gitar), Asteriska (vocal), Puti Chitara (vocal), Gerald Situmorang (bass), TJ Kusuma (guitar) and Marco Steffiano (drum) can be seen wearing costumes of cartoon character Arale, a hotdog, an Indian princess, a crocodile, and many more. The video was shot at a go-kart racing course at Cibubur, West Java. While the indoor scene was shot in a room within Gerald Situmorang’s house. Becoming the most favorite song on their second album, “Pikiran dan Perjalanan” might be a tad too serious for this fun music video. However, the members beg to differ as they hope the audience would laugh and enjoy their comical antics while watching the music video just like when they shot it. Asteriska added that with this fun video but serious themed song, she hopes that people realize that Barasuara can decide their own mind and fate.
