Hodgepodge Superfest 2019 Day 1 Filled with Goodbye, Mosh Pit & More

JAKARTA (31/8) – Hodgepodge Superfest 2019 has finished its 2-day affair with momentous performances from its headliners and we witnessed all its festivity during the first day. There were four main stages available throughout Allianz EcoPark which are Supermusic Stage, BNI Stage,  Wonderful Indonesia Stage, and Kapal Api Signature Stage. Two days prior to HPSF 2019, Snow Patrol had to cancel their performance in Indonesia due to the vocalist’s unhealthy state. However, it didn’t dissipate the happiness found on the festival. NTRL replaced Snow Patrol to perform early in the afternoon that day. It was a little bit unexpected, but the veteran rock band’s showmanship didn’t need an introduction. They managed to play their full set wholeheartedly and became a nice addition on the already stellar line-up. On a smaller stage at Wonderful Indonesia Stage, urban pop band Coldiac introduced their music to the music enthusiasts who saw their stage for the first time.

Hodgepodge Day 1 Recap
GAC

Vocal trio, GAC’s stage was one of the most anticipated set that night since they took to their social media a while back to announce that this would be their last stage as a group before announcing hiatus. Gamaliel, Audrey, and Cantika were all clad in white attire seemed touched by the immense support they received that night. The trio who found success after doing cover songs on Youtube didn’t reveal their future plan on the stage, but they encouraged the fans to keep supporting GAC and sent their gratitude towards them. Amber Bain or famously known for her moniker The Japanese House performed all the songs from her latest album “Good At Failing”. On BNI Stage, Sweet Martabak & Iwa K showed the youngins how veteran hip-hop musicians did their thing. Their commando on stage electrified the crowd, who swarmed the main stage once the night went deeper. Brooklyn-based hip-hop/R&B unit Phony Ppl stunned the crowd with their set. Their biggest song to date “Why iii Love the Moon” drove the fans to sing along and stayed with them until the encore. The packed crowd seemed to indicate a strong following for Phony Ppl in Indonesia.

The Japanese House

The most awaited headliner of the night, The Used, didn’t disappoint as the rock band managed to make gimmicks that one wouldn’t easily forget. Songs like “The Bird and The Worm”, “Buried Myself Alive”, or “All That I’ve Got” became the gasoline for their die-hard fans to bang their heads, shake their bodies, and danced heavily. The Used gave a pleasant but unexpected surprises when they did a rendition of Oasis’ song “Wonderwall” in the middle of their set. There was also a medley of Nirvana and Rage Against The Machine towards the end of their set. Moshpit, wall of death, and circle pit were a must do during The Used’s stage and we witnessed all the craziness there. It was a night to remember and a day filled with mixed emotions of happiness, sadness, and rage. Well done Hodgepodge Superfest 2019!
