Backline Creative Warehouse, A New Platform for Creativity in Malang
MALANG – Matching the highly passionate desire in pursuing creative fields, whether its visual art, music, or performance, Backline Creative Warehouse has arrived to provide the perfect platform for these individuals. Started out as a concert for the lack of creative space to display the latest movement, Wake Up, Iris! who is fortunate enough to be able to spread their network and influence across Indonesia came with the idea to provide what the city needs. Bie Paksi and Vania Marisca who came up with this idea give Backline Creative Warehouse a purpose to become an ecosystem for various creative fields. For the name itself, Backline is taken from electronic audio equipment that is positioned behind musician on every live performance. This equipment plays an important part in every live performance, even though it is rarely mentioned. That’s why Backline is taken as the name of this space for its important philosophy of supporting musicians alike.
Vania Marisca continues to explain, “We want to become a home, a place to interact and create for individuals or communities in Malang as well as beyond the city.” If you take a look at the menu on this café, it was inspired by various band’s titles or band’s name. Some of the menu you can find are Cape Cod Kwasa-Kwasa-Ginger & Lychee Mocktail, In Between Days-Milk Tea Cream Cheese, Lips Like Sugar-Mango Strawberry Lychee and Bob Dylan’s Chicken Sandwich or Shroom of Hendrix-fried mushroom. You can always meet with its owners, Wake Up! Iris, while hanging out at this place and share your creative ideas with them. For its soft opening slated to take place on Saturday, 9th February 2018 there will be a special event in which art exhibition and live performance happen. Titled “Tabur Baru: Pameran Pertemanan”, there will be artworks by Rekma, Menara Pangestu, Bagus Praditya, Nuru Sahru R, Ardi, Seprapat Saja, and Imanullah. Sabiella Maris, Nicolas Mora, and Fletch will spice up the night with their lovely tunes.
