“She and Him”, A Cheerful Return from Hollywood Nobody
Six years ago, Hollywood Nobody reached the peak of their musical career in Bandung. The pop unit then went on a hiatus for so long, that we forgot their existence. In 2018, the group was rumored to reunite and finally at the end of the year, they revealed a new single titled “She and Him”. Albeit being released in 2018, the song was originally composed in 2011 and recorded in the following year. It became the main theme of the band’s mini-concert which was held by their label, FFWD Records. Dian Safitri Irawan (vocal), Iru Irawan (keyboard), Dendy Revolusi (bass), and Luthfi Erizka (drum) that comprised Hollywood Nobody have matured and grew musically and personally during their six-year-absence. However, “She and Him” is thought to still bear relevance in today’s music. Just like their debut album “Everything Happens for A Reason”, the single incorporates bossa nova and swing, with a cheerfulness that is accentuated by the sound of acoustic guitar, tambourine, lively piano, and brass section.
You can also hear a little bit of Spanish influence on its guitar in the middle of the song, that makes this song sounds like a cabaret number. Hollywood Nobody told us on a press release that the making of this song started from the lyrics, which was developed into melodies by Dian. The arrangement followed afterward with backing vocals done together by the band and their friends who were present during the recording process. Muhamad Arie Mustari and Acep Setiawan from ska group, Noin Bullet, helped the band to fill in the brass section. “She and Him” represents the sound of Hollywood Nobody with lots of twists and turns throughout the way. Are we excited to hear more from the band? Hell yeah! The single was released digitally through various outlets that you can also listen to below. They are currently preparing their upcoming sophomore album which is planned to be released in 2019.
