Pekan Sinema Jepang Japan Cinema Week 2018 JakartaJapan Cinema Week 2018 Takes Place This December in Jakarta

Japan lovers, you must be thrilled to welcome December since it was just announced that a Japanese film festival that is officially titled as Japan Cinema Week 2018 (Pekan Sinema Jepang) will be held that month. Organized by Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO) with The Agency of Cultural Affairs & Japan Foundation, the event will happen from December 7th – 16th at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. This year, the event will be more celebratory since it also marks the 60th year of diplomatic relationship between Japan and Indonesia. It is hoped to enhance the interest of Indonesian people about Japanese culture and contribute to the development of cultural tourism in Japan and also increase opportunity for Japanese movies screening in Indonesia. The movies that are going to be screened are divided into 6 categories: New J-Director, New J-Film, “Samurai” Historical, “Kira-Kira” Teen, “Tokusatsu” Special Effect, and Documentary.

In total, there will be 36 titles which will be screened for 9 days. Among those films are “One Cut of the Dead”, “Pieta in the Toilet”, “Miss Hokusai”, “Let Me Eat Your Pancreas” “Bring On The Melody!”, “GAMERA: The Guardian of the Universe”, “GODZILLA (1954)” and many moreAll 36 movies have gone through a curation process done by the program selection committee, the Agency of Cultural Affairs, VIPO & Japan Foundation (JF). Not only screening, but there will also be a workshop on special effect movies (Tokusatsu), discussions with producers and actors from Japan, and symposiums by filmmakers from both countries. This is hoped to enhance the quality of the film from both Indonesia and Japan, as both countries could learn from each other.
