Unknown Mortal Orchestra Got Crowd-Friendly on 1st Ever Show in Jakarta

JAKARTA (26/9) – It was surreal to know the fact that Unknown Mortal Orchestra is going to play a gig in Indonesia. After putting their songs on our playlist for a while, it was such an immense joy to witness the music came to life. Noisewhore, through their routine gig called Noisewhore Live invited the psychedelic rock band to Jakarta on Wednesday, 26 September 2018. Held at Empirica Event Space & Lounge located at SCBD complex, the concert was opened by shoegaze unit hailing from Bandung, HEALS. They performed their songs from their first full-length album, “SPECTRUM”. The band who has performed on St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Singapore uttered their excitement to be picked as the opening act for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, which became a dream came true. The show started with “From The Sun”, a song taken from their 2013’s album “II”. It was then continued with “Ffunny Ffrends”, “Swim and Sleep (Like A Shark)”, “Necessary Evil” and many more. It was a pretty balanced setlist that was comprised not only from their recent album “Sex & Food”, but also from past albums that dated back to their self-titled debut album in 2011.

The highlight came when “Multi Love” was played. Almost all people in the crowd gathered to sing along to the tune. They sang almost all the lyrics in the song that became the biggest hit from Unknown Mortal Orchestra to date. Another memorable thing was when Ruban Nielson decided to get down from the stage and parted the crowd effortlessly while playing the guitar and sing. The crowd automatically pulled their cameras to the frontman and documented his action through their mobile phones. Although only lasted for a short amount of time, this became a nice gesture from UMO who didn’t hesitate to get closer to the fans. The crowd was also pretty chill and decided to grab a bottle of beer while watching the whole show, instead of disturbing Ruban on the dance floor. The experience of watching Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s show in Jakarta became more pleasing with the help of great lighting on stage. It was such an unforgettable night that became one of our best gig in 2018.
