
ARTJOG 2018 Enlightenment is Opened for Viewing for A Month!
YOGYAKARTA – Annual art exhibition held in Yogyakarta, ARTJOG returns in 2018 with its newest edition from 4 May 2018. Using “Enlightenment” as this year’s theme, VIP and media preview marked the opening of the exhibition which is held at Jogja National Museum. Not only featured and submitted artists whose works are displayed there, official representatives from the government, media, sponsors, partners as well as collectors attended the preview prior to the opening. An art performance called “Binds & Blinds” by Mella Jaarsma was performed during the event. She interacted with the viewers by asking them to collect pictures of their belly button. On another room, Ryan Francis Reyes who is one of curatorial team from Ronald Ventura Studio presented a discussion to talk about his works.

While Japanese born artist who are currently residing in Australia, Hiromi Tango, attracted a lot of crowd with his installation called “Healing Garden”. The installation which used lots of flower paper that boasts colorful hues that could light up an entire room. His workshop to create paper flower managed to gather many participants. At the same time on the third floor, Nimas Dwi and Muslimin Bagus Pranowo performed a dance show for the spectators. The opening ceremony commenced at 19.00 with the speech from ARTJOG’s director, Heri Pemad. It was also announced the winners for Young Artist Award ARTJOG 2018 which belong to Meliantha Muliawan (Jakarta, Indonesia), Bandu Darmawan (Bandung, Indonesia) and Fajar Abadi (Bandung, Indonesia).
Governor of The Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X conveyed his opening remark through a representative during the opening ceremony. He cited ARTJOG as not only an art exhibtion, but also a cultural milestone for Indonesia’s current art development. This statement was also supported by the Chief of BEKRAF, Triawan Munaf who said, “ARTJOG is an art occasion that could be dedicated to build a network for local contemporary art, as well as global art market. Through this huge event we want to prove that Indonesia’s artworks are worth of global appreciation.” The event will roll for a month until its closing on June 4th, 2018. Featuring 54 artists in total, ARTJOG 2018 Enlightenment features the works from Agan Harahap, Davy Linggar ft. Tulus, Entang Wiharso, Ika Vantiani, Mulyana and Popok Tri Wahyudi among many others.
