Digital music streaming platform, Deezer held their annual program Deezer NEXT for the second time. Deezer NEXT 2018 sees an array of global and regional musicians to be spotlighted in this streaming site. For 12 months, Deezer NEXT enables their chosen artists to build up their branding, music, as well as market by developing their profiles, including them in the site’s playlists and getting them involved on various programs like creative artist marketing campaign. These artists will also get the chance to create live EP, get interviewed, and got the social media boost they need to be more recognized. As the first leg of the program has been held last year and it spotlighted R&B singer, Jorja Smith, as the main face of the program. This year’s edition sees soul/R&B singer Zak Abel as the global ambassador. His name has been somewhat familiar after his collaboration with other notable musicians like Gorgon City, Tom Misch, and many more. With such hits like “Unmissable”, the 23-year-old singer is bound to be the next big thing in music. He has released 2 EPs and debut album called “Only When We’re Naked” in 2017. “It’s been an honor for me to be a part of Deezer NEXT 2018 campaign. The second year will become the first time for Deezer to feature Asian musicians in this campaign. From Indonesia, newcomer Rayssa Dynta who has debuted with single “Something About Us” and EP “Prolog” was chosen as the first Indonesian artist for Deezer NEXT. She also expressed her excitement and eagerness to bring more music into the table. Second musician from Indonesia that was announced is Rahmania Astrini. The singer who gained popularity with her cover songs is said to have prepared her debut EP this year. Whilst from the neighboring country, Malaysia, a band called Midnight Fusic was chosen as the representative for this campaign. Moreover, Sulinna Ong as the Global Vice President – Artist Marketing from Deezer said,
“Talents could come from anywhere and with Deezer NEXT 2018, we’re very glad to discover and support these newcomers from various countries from Malaysia to Brazil.” She continued that the market’s taste for music becomes more varied and streaming sites have become the main tool for discovering new music.
