8th Music Gallery: Festivity in the Bloom of Indie Music
JAKARTA (03/10) – 8th Music Gallery came back with its captivating line-up on March 10th 2018 at Kuningan City Mall Ballroom. Yep, BSO Band from Economics and Business Faculty of Universitas Indonesia have just granted your wish by inviting, not only one but two talented international artists this year. This time, there are Novo Amor (UK) and Beach Fossils (USA) that became the main guests. Along with that, many reputable local artists such as Cherry Pugs, Mantra Vutura, Eleventwelfth, Jason Ranti, Bam Mastro, HEALS, .Feast, Lightcraft, Fletch, The Broto, Danilla, Mondo Gascaro, Sore, White Shoes & the Couples Company, Sore, OM PMR, The S.I.G.I.T, also heated up the festival. Emphasizing the whole celebration with the theme of ‘Garden of Sounds’, the organizer expected this festival to be the place where music enthusiasts could grow and create beauty of its surroundings.

The lineup was divided into two stages; Intimate and Main Stage. The Intimate Stage was basically a parking lot that’s transformed into an underground-music-stage-like, while the Main Stage was located on a ballroom with a bigger stage. Apart from music performances, there were also art exhibition, merchandise stand, F&B stalls, and even a coffee corner to please the festival goers. As the sky was getting darker, the crowd flocked to the venue with their best festival outfit. On the Main Stage, Mondo Gascaro performed the long awaited collaboration with White Shoes & the Couples Company’s vocalist, Aprilia Apsari. It was such a beautiful collaboration between the two artists and we could not help but dance along to their tunes.

Afterwards, we were mesmerized by the first international artist, Novo Amor. Aside from a slight technical problem, Ali and Ed gave a magnificent performance. A wintery mountain and forest on the background screen also built up a chill and calming ambience. Then the act was wrapped perfectly with – maybe the most familiar song of all, “Terraform”. That one hour of earthy folk instruments were never enough.

Yet before we moved on the second international artist, Sore brought up a wonderful show on the Main Stage. Everybody couldn’t help to sing along, especially when “Setengah Lima” was being performed. Then it was finally Beach Fossils‘ turn to appear on stage. The crowd started to gather in front of the Main Stage. Too bad, the sound check took a little too long time than expected, resulted in almost 45 minutes delay. Beach Fossils front man, Dustin Payseur, expressed their apology and thought that the audience were awesome for patiently waiting. Of course it was 100% forgiven after we saw what they did on stage. As soon as they started playing, everybody was filled with excitement. Dustin, Jack, and Tommy boast their dreamy charm as the crowd sing along to “This Year”, “Down the Line”, and the other shimmering indie pop songs.

No wonder that the 8th Music Gallery tickets were sold out. Beside it might be cheaper than your favorite sneakers, this festival always managed to bring the perfect indie music for youth. Well, they already brought so many kick ass artists such as Tahiti 80, Panama, Last Dinosaurs, Honne, Novo Amor, and Beach Fossils. Who will be next?
