It was just announced that the foundation would bring the first Yayoi Kusama’s major exhibition to life. The exhibition series is titled “Yayoi Kusama: Life is The Heart of A Rainbow”. Museum MACAN becomes the latest stop for this installment after it was shown at National Gallery Singapore and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art in Australia. The exhibition which will showcase more than 130 artworks from the acclaimed Japanese artist will commence in May until September. On current exhibition, Yayoi’s work called “Infinity Mirrored Room – Brilliance of the Souls” becomes the visitor’s favorite spot on the museum to take pictures. Its sheer popularity even created a queue that lasts for an hour before the visitor could take picture in the beautifully dimmed lit room.

The survey exhibition from Yayoi Kusama sees the development of her practice over the span of almost 70 years, with early works from the 1950s. Museum MACAN is supposedly to be the last museum to display this series and it will be a waste if you miss the opportunity to see the early years of the eclectic  artist. “This is an exceptional opportunity for people to visit a Kusama exhibition and to let themselves into her world, methods, ideas, inspirations and to experience the phenomena that is Yayoi Kusama,” says Aaron Seeto, Director of Museum MACAN. “The Museum is proud to present such an immense exhibition of works to Indonesian and regional audiences, which will feature pieces now part of MACAN’s collection, and I encourage all cultural enthusiasts and art lovers to visit and appreciate this.”  Few of the artworks that you will see on the exhibition are “I Want to Love on the Festival Night” (2017), “Flower” (1953), “Untitled (Child Mannequin)” (1966), “My Eternal Soul” (2009 – now), “Dots Obsession”(2013/2016), “Narcissus Garden” (1966/2018), “THE SPIRITS OF THE PUMPKINS DESCENDED INTO THE HEAVENS” (2015) and “The Obliteration Room” (2002-ongoing).

You would be able to see her signature use of dots, nets, and pumpkins through work from the 1950s to the present; her engagement with the body and her concept of self-obliteration; and at last, her fascinating approach to space through large-scale installations. Interactive installations would also present on the exhibition, which you have probably seen from your friends’ Instagram if they had the chance to visit the exhibition in Singapore. “Yayoi Kusama: Life is The Heart of A Rainbow” will begin on May 12th until September 9th 2018.
