1234!, A Punk Quartet from Surabaya Revealed Their Debut Album
The punks are not going anywhere and every second there seems to be a new punk band emerges in the corner of the world. We first saw Surabaya’s based punk quartet, 1234!, during their performance at Thursday Noise Chapter Surabaya a while back. The band seemed to bear a high spirit during their performance as it is also shown on their single “Penggosip”. Recently, 1234! released their debut mini album in a physical format. Radit (vocal/guitar), Londo (vocal/guitar), Paidun (vocal/guitar) and Billy (drum) launched the album on 11 November 2017 with a CD. The band who chose to release their records independently also released their single “Penggosip” on Bandcamp. The aforementioned lead single of their 4-track mini album contains their anger, frustration and worries towards people who love to gossip around. As cited on their social media, the band feel disappointed that people often choose to talk about other people behind their backs rather than sharing their own experience while engaging in a conversation. They feel people’s curiosity about others’ personal lives are getting overboard and it is an unhealthy habit to pick up.
The rapid drums and three guitars, present a packed punk rhythm to the listeners. It is then completed with the shouts from the vocalist, which you might find either good or bad depends on your preference of punk music. All the recordings for their debut mini album were done at Natural Studio Surabaya. After releasing their mini album, 1234! are currently collecting materials for their first full lenght record. They were also involved in a charity concert for flood victims in Pacitan in which they donated the profit from their merchandise sale. These punkers plan to hold a mini tour in near future to promote their music to a wider mass as well. Check out their single below and order their album through the band’s Instagram.
