Star Wars: The Last Jedi is A Chock Full of Fan Service | Rating: 9/10
The latest installment of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has seen its worldwide premiere yesterday and we’re trying so hard not to scream our lungs out of excitement. Continuing what was left from “The Force Awakens”, we see almost all the cast return including Rey (Daisey Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Chewbacca, BB-8, R2-D2, and C3PO. Of course, Han Solo doesn’t return since he was assassinated by the evil slash undutiful son, Kylo Ren. The scene started off with The First Order chasing the escaping Resistance fleet after they destroyed the Death Star 2. General Hux has managed to wipe a significant number of the Resistance, so instead of running, they tried to destroy some of First Order’s ships. Led by Poe, the Resistance were able to destroy one of the ship from Galactic Empire but with a huge cost. The Resistance was getting weaker, and at the same time the dark force within Kylo Ren was getting stronger.
The only hope left was laid in Rey who had found Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last master Jedi. In contrary to what they hoped, Luke did not want to teach Rey the way of Jedi even though he found a huge amount of force within her. They were now racing against time to free themselves as well as keeping the hope alive, as the Jedi order has almost reached its doom. On The Last Jedi, we got to see another side of Kylo Ren which was not as dark as we might think. New hero emerged in a new character named Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) who was not only charming, but smart and brave at the same time. BB-8 also became the man (or the droid) of the movie that saved some assess in the right time. Director Rian Johnson presents a Star Wars movie that feels a lot lighter compared to the last one directed by J.J. Abrams. There were a lot more jokes and comical moments that sent the audience in laughter and bewilderment.
This movie has a lot of fan service for the old Star Wars fans as well as the new ones. What we like about it is, there is no huge and seemingly impossible to destruct war machine. The only enemy is the timing here and various things were happening at the same time. We wish the time spent on Luke’s planet was longer, so we could see the developing bond between him and Rey. Otherwise, it is not difficult to see this movie topping the year-end box office. We want to watch it again and again!
