Kunto Aji Drops New Single “Konon Katanya” From Upcoming Album
“Generation Y” is such a breakthrough from soloist Kunto Aji whose songs have topped the national charts and generated massive airplay from radio nationwide. His hits like “Terlalu Lama Sendiri”, “Mercusuar”, or “Ekspektasi” made this album filled with lots of gems. Two years after his successful endeavor, the singer from Yogyakarta releases his new single from upcoming album called “Konon Katanya”. Under Juni Records, Kunto Aji reveals the song in digital formats with a simultaneous play on radios across Indonesia. The song is a pop heavy number without showing his usual pop-jazz flair we have known for and fallen in love with. Using the catchphrase of ‘konon katanya’ that is repeatedly sung during the chorus, the song might catch you off-guard with this hook. He uses upbeat drums to make “Konon Katanya” a bit more uplifting. The singer took his Instagram to explain the meaning of the song. “I want to use a very simple analogy. Take the bag you usually bring around as an example, and take a look inside of it. Let’s question it one by one, like these gadgets I bring around. Are they useful enough for me in order to pursue my dream? This wallet with all of its receipts. Have I spent it well enough for the things I need? This book that I haven’t finished reading. Will the knowledge there be useful for me? And many more things here. This makes me question whether we have chosen things in our lives wisely. Are these things really purposeful or are they just a burden we’re carrying around each day,” said Kunto Aji in philosophical way.

As said by Adryanto Pratono as the director of the label, they want to provide and cater to whatever their artists want to and agree with Kunto Aji’s decision to go digital for this first single from his second album. He worked with producer Anugrah Swastadi in recording this song and made sure that they explore another side of the genre he’s been doing all this time. Meanwhile for the visual part of this single, he worked with Dwi Novian to experiment a new kind of visual that is different from his debut album. We could see the singer is photographer by Rigel Haryanto over a vignette background holding a rose in a neon magenta nuanced visual. He explained that the song feels very personal to him and he chose it as the perfect opener for his forthcoming album. With this song, he wants to simplify complex things and ask the listeners to think about it further. He also said that there is no need to dissect it too deep, since he wants to live life with ease.
