After releasing their album “Heartbreaker” last year, indie band Coldiac set off to a great start with lots of live performances in their hometown, Malang and beyond. Two years into their music career, they never stop reinventing themselves and on 22 June 2017, Coldiac share a new single accompanied with a music video titled “Wreck This Journal”. One thing we love about Coldiac is their passion into details in aesthetic and oh boy, it is truly delivered on their latest video directed by Prialangga. Sambadha Wahyadyatmika (vocal & guitar), Mahatamtama Arya Adinegara (vocal & guitar), Derry Rith Haudin (Synth.), Bhima Bagaskara (bass), and Judha Widhita (drum) give a pleasure to our ears and eyes with “Wreck This Journal”. The song itself is thick with mid-tempo pop arrangement with underlying groovy beats that somehow reminds you to an old R&B tune. The piano gives a subtle sultry nuance which you can also find on other tracks by Coldiac who often use sensual topic in their songs.

However, “Wreck This Journal” is another story in its entirely compared to their previous ones. The title which is taken after a book written by Keri Smith chronicles about an honest and real experience from the members of Coldiac. This song is considered sacred by the members for its ability to interpret their inner feelings that hold close some people that have been there during some time in their lives. “The lyrics are pretty honest, but that honesty gives the real meaning to the song. Purity!”, say Coldiac on a press release. The brilliant music video in the form of portrait video has a concept of purity, semiotic, memories. Presence, departure, letting go, and the situation which forces people to let go are some points of the story you can find on the video. “The music video feels very personal, because here I try to tell about an anxiety which roots from a personal experience, the members, and our closest friends that later is wrapped in the concept of purity, semiotic and memories,” explains Prialangga as the director. Clad in flowing and theatrical pieces of clothing, Coldiac members with the talents act out gracefully scripted movements. With a styling and make up done by Titi Savitri, the models portray innocence and sadness at the same time.

With this video, Coldiac also want to give another statement that although performing a modern music, they still keep their traditional roots intact. In the beginning of the video you could see traditional  Javanese letters which form words “Kadyo sonya lingsir wengi”. The phrase which means “like a solitude in a third of the night” inspire this music video as you could see the rising smoke and the melodies of the music box in the beginning which give out a spooky ambience. This single and music video further prove that Coldiac are ready for the big league, they got the resources, creativity, talents, and music to boost.
