The Many Layers of Liam Gallagher and His Solo Career
Liam Gallagher, mostly known as a part of Britpop legendary band, Oasis, is now coming back into the music scene on his own. After Oasis fell apart and the relationship with his brother who was the guitarist, Noel Gallagher, went awry, he started his own band, Beady Eye with his former bandmates. The project did not last long, as the unit also announced their break up back in 2014. Since then, practically the man got no band, job, whatsoever. One consistent thing about him is his clap back, sarcasm, and direct insult towards his brother that is uploaded onto his social media. His demeaning attitude towards his brother makes many people think that he is an arrogant man. But, that is not the case of Liam, as the man actually has multiple facades. He might be too upfront and childish for calling his brother a ‘potato’ but he also concerns about his hometown, Manchester, when he heard about the bombing tragedy. He agreed to perform on a charity concert held by Ariana Grande called “One Love Manchester” which was a star studded music performances with US pop stars in attendance. He made a surprise appearance and joined the stage of Coldplay to sing Oasis’ song “Live Forever”, despite his negative remark about the band he made last year. He also performed songs from his solo project, and one of them is “Wall Of Glass”.
He also stated that the profit from his upcoming gigs in Manchester would all be donated to the victims of the bombing. So, is he an angel after all? Not quite, since he got a few time on his own to tweet a rather satirical statement directed to his brother saying that he flown out of the country instead of performing for a good cause. According to an interview he did with fashion magazine, Vogue, the current Liam is different than the old one, citing a healthy morning routine that includes running has been added on his daily activity. Within the same interview, he stated that he would not insert politics into his music, but on the contrary he spilled about the candidate he is going to vote on the next general election during his concert. Wow, the more you know about him the more you’d be partly amazed and partly confused. On an exclusive interview with NME, the man proclaimed that he is Oasis and he has all the rights to sing Oasis’ songs while hitting the road to promote his solo album “As You Were”. Such bold statement can only be understood as he is the main songwriter of the band.
During his whirlwind years after Oasis breakup, Liam has gone through many things like a divorce, and a failed attempt in marketing Beady Eye as there was only few gigs that the band attended. All in all, will his solo effort that is coming out in September, return Liam to his superior position like the old days? “Wall Of Glass” is an excellent introduction to his own new sound, and in this one he puts his ego aside to work together with Greg Kurstin as another songwriter who makes this track like what it is now. Maybe his many layers of personalities is one of his traits to keep our attention glued to him. Maybe it’s what attractive about Liam. But in the end, it all comes back to the music and Liam Gallagher is ready to let you enter his spinning roller coaster ride with upcoming album and world tour, so stay posted!
