Mondo Gascaro Wonders About Life with New Single “Dan Bila…”
Every time we listen to RAJAKELANA, an album by Mondo Gascaro that was released last year, there is always a new perspective on his songs. “Dan Bila…” is among the highlight in this album and Ivy League Music, his record label decided to release it as a single with an accompanying music video. “Dan Bila…” with its poetic and metaphoric lyrics draw our attention from the first note. The song has a thick Indonesiana feel to it with its grand string arrangement. It is swaying, hypnotizing, and it bears the same underlying ambience with the rest of the album which captures the beauty of ocean. The gentle melodies from this song also has a dynamic when a little instrumental play is inserted at 3:11 minute mark. For a second, we thought that we have moved on to another track in the album, but then Mondo sings the hook of the song again. Through its various play on melodies and tempo, Mondo’s gentle vocal makes the track complete. While listening to the tune, we could not help but reflect about life and all of its ups and downs.
On another hand, the visual for “Dan Bila…” shows the dynamics of Jakarta and is meant to be an homage to the city. It was directed by Aco Tenriyagelli and shot in several public areas like Kalijodo, Tugu Tani, Taman Ismail Marzuki and many other open spaces in Jakarta. An event called “Music For Public Vol.1” was held by Ivy League Music as a platform to launch this song as a single and its music video. On a sunny day on Sunday (5/14), at RPTRA Kalijodo, North Jakarta the event was aimed to showcase entertaining music in a public space. It was a free of charge event and opened for public, since Mondo and his team wanted to interact and shared the music with everyone from any age. Not only Mondo Gascaro, it also featured DJ Davkillz and DJ Udasjam with their selected tunes. Performing with acoustic format, people showed up to watch Music For Public Vol.1 and those who happened to be at Kalijodo during the event also enjoyed his set. The music video was also shown and in the future, they hope to hold the following series of Music For Public with other talented musicians from Indonesia.
