Europe On Screen 2017 Finished Its 13th Edition on A High Note
If you happen to read our website these past weeks, you will notice that a film festival from European filmmakers were happening. From 5 to 14 May 2017, Europe on Screen 2017 ran its series with great quality movies from 21 countries in European Union. On its closing night held at Erasmus Huis, Central Jakarta on Sunday (5/14), the festival has officially been wrapped up. With 390 invites, the event started with dinner and followed by opening speeches by Mr. Vincent Guerend as The Ambassador of European Union, Mrs. Hilde Solbakken as the Acting Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway and closed by Mr. Orlow Seunke as the Festival Director of Europe on Screen 2017. At the same time there is also a screening for the Open Air category attended by 315 people. This year six cities across Indonesia act as hosts for the festival and there are Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta and Denpasar. The festival features 74 films ranging from documentaries, drama, animation, comedy that cater towards various age segments.
With the addition of two titles and more venues than last year, Europe on Screen committee target an increase of spectators up to 36%. The target has been achieved with approximately 30,000 attendees coming to watch the screenings, compared to last year’s record that was set at 21.886 attendees. Jakarta and Medan hold the highest numbers of viewers, but unfortunately it was not as high on cities like Bandung, Yogyakarta and Denpasar. The screening of “Look Who’s Back” at GoetheHaus and “Blackmail” at Erasmus Huis were able to attract the most viewers in Jakarta. During “Blackmail” screening, a music performance was also conducted by Trust Orchestra to accompany the silent movie. We also watched other screenings for a Swedish movie “A Man Called Ove” and a Spanish movie “A Perfect Day”. On the closing night, a movie from Norway called “Here Is Harold” was screened and it summed up the whole celebration of European films in Indonesia. See you next year with better film selections and more exciting programs!
