Popcon Asia Returns in 2017 with Blue Power Ranger Actor, Great Teacher Onizuka’s Author, Vlogger Chris Cantada, Animator Aimee de Jongh and More!
Popcon Asia is one of the biggest celebration of pop culture in Indonesia and this year is the 6th edition of the international scale event. This time around the committee boasts a promising line-up for the guests or also known as Popstars. The event will be held in two days on 5 – 6 August 2017 at Jakarta Convention Center with the theme of POP PARADE. It will once again present the people behind the creative industries in Indonesia starting from films, animation, comic, toys and also games. Per usual there are also international pop culture icons that will be invited during the event to make the event more festive and also to fulfill the hope from Indonesian fans. First up, there will be Yoshi Sudarso, the man from Indonesian descent has been living in California and he is the cast of Blue Power Ranger on Power Ranger DinoCharge TV series. He won’t be coming alone as his brother, Peter Sudarso who is also an actor, model and fashion blogger will also present on Popcon Asia. “This year, Popcon will be twice bigger than previous editions with a series of local and international contents which are all incredible,” says Grace Kusnadi, the co-founder and event director of Popcon Asia with such confidence.
For those who is a long time fan of Japanese superhero series, Gavan, you are in for a treat as Yuma Ishigaki will be there to celebrate the 35th anniversary of serial Gavan. He is a young actor who reprise the role of Gavan after it was being aired in the 80’s and played by legendary actor, Kenji Ohba. Tooru Fujisawa, the creator of “Great Teacher Onizuka” comic has also confirmed his attendance and you can get your comic book signed during the event. His wife, Ayano Fujisawa will come along as she is also an actress who plays the live action version of the comic book. A Youtuber from Philippines, Chris Cantada is also confirmed to be there as he is an acclaimed vlogger with more than 270 million views on his channel. He is known to make a fanmade video of Power Ranger and Star Wars, and he even managed to get the real actor of Power Rangers to be featured on one of his video. Animator, illustrator, comic artist and graphic novel author from Netherlands, Aimee de Jongh will share her experience and expertise on the subject. From local guests, there will be GamelAwan, a Lamongan based music group who make cover videos of Western music with a gamelan arrangement. Gafarock who are known to remake the lyrics of popular songs into Javanese words, will be there as well.
Albeit promising a stellar international guests, Grace Kusnadi once again states that local creator will be the core or main attraction of the event. A launching event by Elex Media Komputindo with Pionicon to reveal ‘Juki Jalan-Jalan ke Seoul’ comic book will be held during Popcon Asia. Moreover, Sunny Gho, the co-founder and program director of the event also adds, “The coming of many foreign stars does not mean that we forget our identity. Everything is in the process of confirmation and shortly we will release the programs, POPSTAR, and other exciting contents. Just you wait!”.
