Yogyakarta’s Noise Expert, Indra Menus to Hold Presentation + Solo Concert
Indra Menus proves his dedication and enthusiasm towards noise music by holding a presentation about his research about noise music as well as a solo concert to boot. Indra Menus with his stage name To Die has conducted a thorough research about noise music in Southeast Asia. This research is based on the movement of noise music in Indonesia and how it becomes a trend or a cult that is followed by many listeners and enthusiasts. In the 90’s or early 2000, noise music in this country has grown in big cities like Jakarta, Yogyakarat or Bandung. A movie dedicated to noise music called “Bising: The Movie” has been screened on many countries like Hongkong, Japan and up to Europe. A documentary curated by Indra called “Pekak! Indonesian Noise 1995 – 2015: 20 Years of Experimental Music From Indonesia” has also been made and an annual international event called Jogja Noise Bombing is enough to capture international attention towards the growing community of noise music in Indonesia.
Supported fully by fellowship program at Asia Center Japan Foundation, Indra Menus did his research that was conducted in five countries (Singapore, Phillippines, Malaysia,Thailand, Indonesia) across Southeast Asia starting from February up to March 2017. He collected data by interviewing the musicians, fans, and record label owners, as well as organizers who dedicate their lives to hold noise music performances. The aim to publicize this research is to introduce the noise culture in another country and show the difference on how a gig of noise music is held there. The presentation and discussion for this research will be held on 20 May 2017 at Kedai Kebun Forum, Jalan Tirtodipuran no. 3, Mantrijeron, Yogyakarta. Titah Asmaning from Warning Magazine will become the moderator of this presentation and later on the data, analysis and the result of this research will be printed on a book. This book will be launched in two languages, English and Indoenesia. Later that night starting from 7PM, Indra Menus with Kenali Rangkai Pakai as a D.I.Y synth producer from Yogyakarta will perform. Mahamboro (saxophone) and Jandon Banyu (beatbox) will also collaborate with Indra Menus during the concert. If you are a fan of noise, and would like to know more about this music, you can come to the presentation and concert event held by Indra Menus in Yogyakarta.
