See The Festive “Merbabu” Book Launching by Sabeq at Rumah Opa Malang
Mohammad Sabeq proves that being young is a chance of a lifetime to be productive. The man who is currently enrolling in a master degree program at UIN Maliki Malang has launched his third book called “Merbabu” on Monday, 27th March 2017. Beforehand he has published a book called “Kayu” and another one called “Malabar”. Taking place at Rumah Opa, the event started a little over 2PM and there were many people showed up to support his book launching.”Merbabu” is the name of a mountain and also the name of a city park in Malang. Being asked about the origin of the title of this book, Sabeq explained, “While etymologically, Merbabu is a combination between Meru (mountain) and Abu (ash), there is also another meaning that explains Meru as mountain and Babu as woman. I don’t know, I personally interpret Merbaby as a woman figure who leaves the ashes of her past & the lesson that has been learned. Merbabu is like a sleeping lady. With all the suspicion, beauty and tenderness, they can also be angry. From there, a figure of a woman takes shape in this book.”
This book contains Sabeq’s thoughts and reflection about the current situation. He tries to give a solution to the post-modern generation while also protesting the moral degradation that is happening in our society. People nowadays tend to be anti-social and lack empathy over any tragedy, mishaps, and crimes that present before their own eyes. Sabeq pours out his concern in this book that has an artwork of a woman as the cover sleeve. Besides the book launching, there was also official merchandise and other books of Sabeq being sold on the spot. Pelangi Sastra as the publisher also sold other books on the venue that was met with high enthusiasm from the crowd. The music performances from Oddy, Steffani BPM, and Pagi Tadi also made the celebration more festive and people even found it hard to find a place to sit. After the launching was finished, it was succeeded by an event by Parade Film Malang that screened a movie called “Kita Basodara”. The event not only connected literature lovers, but also movie and music enthusiasts in one place.
