A biennial art exhibition that is held at RUCI Art Space, Jakarta titled Y: Collect 2.0 is happening from 18 March – 9 April 2017. The exhibition displays artworks collection that is curated by Grace Samboh. On 17 March 2017, during a media preview, Grace explained that holding this exhibition was not an easy feat. She had to curate all the art pieces from the collectors and had to carefully select the creations that would be exhibited later. From the procedure itself, it is vastly different than a regular art exhibition. Since the collections already exist and the collectors come from different backgrounds, she had to determine a thinking structure which will help to narrow down the theme and the purpose of the exhibition.

She started off with the idea of looking for artworks that are made of paper or materials that are easily broken, and objects without long-lasting endurance. 5 collectors were chosen to exhibit their artworks and they are Paula Dewiyanti, S. Santosa, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Marissa Soeryadjaya, and Simon Tan. As collectors, some of these personalities have been collecting art pieces from Indonesian artist or foreign ones since many years ago, while there are also those who have just begun their collection since five years ago. You could take a look at the artworks on display, while also finding out the unique stories behind the collection. By witnessing these artworks, you could also find out each collector’s personality and taste regarding the art that they have purchased and owned. The director of RUCI Art Space, Melin Merril also states that, “It (collecting) is about finding artworks that resonate with personal beliefs and worldviews regarding self-definition.”
