Luise Najib Undergoes Through Transformation with Dark and Bold New Single “Love Affair”
After much anticipation, soloist Luise Najib finally revealed her new single “Love Affair” at the end of January 2017. The song and the music video has been uploaded onto several digital outlets and it showcases Luise Najib’s new persona. In “Love Affair” we could see the songstress transforms into a bolder and darker character whether in terms of sound or visual. In the sound department, her new personality is enhanced with Luise’s soulful voice and electro-pop arrangement that can be heard in the single. Several sound effects are also present in this song including the sound of waves and wind. Visually, from the promotion picture alone you could sense that Luise Najib wants to explore her character to display a stronger aura with dark outfit choices, bold make up and hairstyle that reminds you of Princess Leia from Star Wars.
The singer who was a finalist of talent search show, The Voice Indonesia 2013, said that “Love Affair” is kinda deceiving. With such title, many would have thought that the song talks about a love affair between a man and a woman. While in fact, through a press release Luise Najib explains that the song tells about her affair with the music scene. “Born, raised, go to the highest education, have a staple job, start a family, then die, it often happens. Doing music is like an affair to me because there is a conflict between my personal desire with those people around me,” utters Luise. The song has existed since a year and a half ago along with another eight songs that will be wrapped into Luise Najib’s debut album. In this single she acted as the producer with Vicky Unggul as the co-producer, while the artwork was done by visual artist Gentur Suria who created a piece called “Sukma”.
For the video that she directed herself, it also bears the same dark and strong ambience just like the song and a guy figure appears to symbolize the ‘music’ as her affair. Moreover, as a fan of James Blake, Jamie Woon, James Vincent McMorrow, Bon Iver, BANKS, Jessie Ware, Kimbra and the likes, Luise Najib promises a total change to her whole image in her upcoming debut album. She claims that her album will be a mirror image of her who wants to display her music without having to cater to the current market. “This is the real music of Luise Najib, from this album my true color will be visible. Besides I will also collaborate with fellow artists for the outwork and outfit and accessories that I wear. For the live performance, there will be surprises,” hints Luise of her future work. We could say that we like the direction she is going to, and what is more relieving than showing your true self to the world with music.
