Coaster Bring the Spirit of Pop Punk with “Daydreams”
Need a new act to be added on your punk playlist? Maybe Coaster could be your alternative. Established in 2012, the band from Jakarta which often underwent name changes (we read that they changed their names like 9 times (!) from 2006), officially used Coaster from 2012 until now. The band is comprised of Papau (vocal/guitar), Abimanyu (Guitar/backing vocal), Fadil (bass/backing vocal) and Ari (drum). So far they have released an EP called “Youthful Spirit” in 2015 which resonated the band’s vision to bring the sound of “Teenagers Punk Rock”. In October 2016, they finally released their full lenght album called “Daydreams”. It contains 12 tracks and still embodies the spirit of youth punk rockers within Coaster. It is obvious to see that the band still carries their optimism by the title of the songs in this album. “Bergerak”, “Terbang”, “Genggam Dunia” or “Jalan Terus” are just a few of their high-spirited songs that help to spread positivity to the listeners. In “Daydreams”, the band is also not afraid to incorporate other element than punk into their music. Listen to “Negeri di Tangan Kita” to listen a little bit of swing jazz piano in the middle of a punk song.
The release of “Daydreams” is a prove that they want to show their existence in Indonesia’s punk rock scene. Musically, they bring the sound that is almost similar to the likes of Blink-182 (which also inspired their name) or maybe early days of Endank Soekamti. The easy-digested lyrics are wrapped in pop-punk arrangement that would be good to be seen live. Coaster have bagged a lot of live performances so far, it’s easy to see that they will have a great followers later since pop punk is still big and alive here. If you like what you listen, grab “Daydreams” via their label, Musicoloid or stream their discography on Spotify.
