Bottlesmoker Collaborates with Stars & Rabbit and Goodnight Electric during Go Ahead Challenge Artwarding Night 2016
(11/25) Go Ahead Challenge 2016 closed out its entire journey in a peak event called Artwarding Night 2016 on Sunday, November 20th 2016 and it also presented a collaborative performance from duo electronic musician, Bottlesmoker. Other than held to crown the winners of Go Ahead Challenge 2016, the event also put out special collaborative performances from Indonesia’s indie musicians from various genres. One of the highlight was the performance from Bottlesmoker, Goodnight Electric and Stars & Rabbit, that got the fans thrilled with excitement. The collaboration turned out to be not-a-three-way collaboration, but it featured two musicians in one performance at a time, with Bottlesmoker becoming the glue and main collaborator of the session. On a press conference that was held prior to the performance, they explained about the collaboration with much laughter.
Elda, the vocalist from folk band, Stars & Rabbits said that she felt like one of the finalist from Go Ahead Challenge, as her band was challenged to do a special collaboration with another act and they finally came up with Bottlesmoker, without knowing that the electronic band from Bandung has already prepared another collaboration with another electronic act, Goodnight Electric. “Lately we are often associated with one another, we often play in a gig together, so it seems like there is a meaning behind it. They came up with “The House”and we picked another song from Bottlesmoker’s discography. What if I fill it with singing, I want to write the lyrics and know the real meaning behind this song,” tells Elda about their two collaborative songs with Bottlesmoker. Later that night, we found out that Stars & Rabbit wrote the lyrics to Bottlesmoker’s “Frozen Scratch Cerulean” and it made the instrumental piece became more alive with the words sung beautifully by Elda. “The House” was arranged in the electronic music that had Bottlesmoker’s character without erasing the originality of Stars & Rabbit.
Goodnight Electric said that they were basically ready to do any project as long as they were given the stage to perform. Oom Leo, Batman, and Bondi Goodboy said that they knew each other for a long time but it was only then that they had a chance to collaborate. “There will be synthesizer overload”, joked Oom Leo about their joint performance. Bottlesmoker then expressed their admiration towards Goodnight Electric, and said that the band was the inspiration for them to make music back when they were in college. So the collaboration was something that they have been dreaming of and through a short amount of time they were able to pull it through. It resulted in an energetic performances when both bands were able to generate mass dancing from the crowd with their 60’s disco heavy tunes.
Furthermore, Bottlesmoker unveiled the setbacks they faced during the collaboration preparation, including finding the time and matching their schedule to do the new music arrangement, and also adapting and adjusting the tools and instruments frequency with the analog-led Stars & Rabbit. Thankfully they were all able to display their capability as musicians in the end, and proved their hard-work with a stunning collaboration.
