Eva Celia Debut Album "And So It Begins"“And So It Begins” by Eva Celia aims to convey love to all its listeners

Music is in Eva Celia’s blood, and she uses her gift and talent to express everything that goes through her mind and heart. After two years in the making, the daughter of jazz musician Indra Lesmana and actress Sophia Latjuba, finally unleashed her debut album “And So It Begins” yesterday (11/16). On a press conference that was held yesterday afternoon at Largo Bistrot Jakarta, Eva introduced her album in front of the media and her ever supporting friends and family. Her mother Sophia Latjuba, actress Tara Basro, fellow musicians like Teddy Adhitya, Nikita Dompas, Randy MP, Teza Sumendra and trio GAC (Gamaliel, Audrey, Cantika) were present during the launching event. She also did a listening session of the album, and explained the songwriting process and the meaning behind each song. The album contains 8 tracks in total, including her single “Reason” that was released a year ago and a collaboration with two members of her favorite instrumental band from New York, Snarky Puppy.

Eva Celia, for instance, does not categorize her music into one specific genre, since she was growing up listening to many genres starting from jazz, R&B, soul, or even rock. The 23-year-old musician who is also an actress, appreciates all of them and she is able to grasp the essence of each genre to craft her own tunes. She wrote all the tracks on this album and revealed that the main theme of the album is about positivity and hope. She mentioned love, patience and acceptance was among the things that we should exercise in our daily life. Other than Indra Lesmana, as her number one partner to talk about anything music, she also cited that she found her music soulmate in Tendra Leonard, who is a member of band GRUVI. He also participated in the process of creating this album, as well as Aldhan Prasatya and Demas Narawangsa.

She also told the story of how she came up with a collaboration project with Snarky Puppy. Her feat with Justin Stanton and Mark Letteri from Snarky Puppy began when she reached out to them via social media. It is something unimaginable for Eva, who has been a long-time fan of the band, to finally could collaborate with them. The long distance did not bother them to continue making music together, it instantly becomes one of the highlight of this album according to Eva.

Moreover, Eva Celia has already released a music video for one of the song from the album called “Against Time” which was directed by Petra Sihombing. The video utilizes various lighting techniques, graphic visual, and use of silhouettes to bring out sensual and sultry vibe. All 8 tracks were played during the listening session, and we definitely could feel the groove to them. The album is like an enjoyable ride that seems very light in the beginning, but it turns out to be much deeper and richer in terms of meanings, once you dwell into the lyrics and dig the messages behind the songs.

On a track called “Let Love Grow” which is also the closing track of the album, Eva saw the illegal burning of forest and a country full of corruption as the inspiration for her to write the song. To a large extent, she wants this album to convey a message that love, can turn any evil thing in this world into something good. She hopes that what she’s been working on, could inspire many people, including fellow musicians. Eva Celia also wishes that this album could carry on a message which could be useful for people’s life whether on material or spiritual level.
