Art Spotlight: BAZAAR ART Jakarta – An Astonishing Global Art Fair

Bazaar Art Jakarta presented by Harper’s Bazaar Magazine Indonesia claims themselves as the biggest art fair in Jakarta. Such bold statement should be met with high expectation and excitement from art enthusiasts. Alas, we decided to witness the exhibition that took place at The Ritz Carlton, Pacific Place Jakarta.

We were struck by the color dynamics that were displayed on site. The art installations could be seen from far away as they were hanging at the mall’s main atrium, and from then, it got better. Many art forms were displayed such as paintings, sculpture, and many more art using mixed media.

What piqued our interest was the sheer amount of participants whose artworks were displayed at BAJ. They came from all over the world and BAJ have managed to gather the collections from many galleries under one roof. Even though many foreign artworks were present, Indonesian pride haven’t gone unnoticed. Talented surrealist painter, Roby Dwi’s paintings on helmets have captured the visitors. Djoko Hartanto’s crocodile artwork or Valdo Manullang’s dark surrealist paintings were few spotlights of many more interesting pieces from Indonesia.

Like many of the art fairs that have been held before, BAJ also offer many interactive events during the exhibition like art talkshow, auction, charity, education and also live performance from artists. The artworks that were showcased also have price tags for collectors to purchase. Many of these visitors enjoy the exhibition by taking pictures of the artwork, or….themselves. If you are an art appreciator, this event is one not to be missed.

Today is the last day of exhibition, so if you’re in town or you have spare time, Bazaar Art Jakarta might be the perfect event to visit. We surely hope there will be another BAJ in the future.
