ARTJOG9 Universal Influence, an experience of inside and outside the head of an artist – Review
ARTJOG9 has been the talk of the town, wait not town, but across country. It’s an annual art exhibition that curates art based on different theme each year. For those who appreciate and enjoy art in its truest form, then it’s gonna be a ride. For those who wants to go there just to take selfies, you’d better learn a thing or two after, so you won’t leave empty headed.
First of all, from the outside of the venue we can see some art installations like rocket ship and a tunnel, so we thought extraterrestrial things would be the main interest of the exhibition, but we were wrong. Upon entering, we were welcomed by a string of unique installations, a carbon copy of Indonesian warung that can be found throughout the country, a theatrical performance, and some unique paintings.
After witnessing some of the artworks, we can conclude that they really do show various influences that drives an artist to create something. One of the most prominent is religion/belief, nature, and media. In some part, some of the artworks seem like it doesn’t suit the theme. And we understand it is hard to curate art based on a specific theme. But ARTJOG9 has satisfied our needs for some in-depth artworks, especially the exploration of social phenomena through the lens of artists.
It was a great experience, we hope for a better and more solid curated artworks in the future. And for the visitors please do read the explanations on each artwork, your brains would be gladly enhanced.
