Review: Tully Shows The Hardships of Being A Woman and A Mother
The struggle of being a woman, especially a mother often goes unnoticed or taken for granted. “Tully”, a new drama movie starring Charlize Theron as a 40-year-old mother of three, takes a deeper look inside motherhood. The film produced by Focus Features started off with a couple named Marlo (Charlize Theron) and Drew (Ron Livingston) who were expecting their third child together. Marlo who worked and had to take care of her children as well seem to be overwhelmed, but she refused help from nannies or any aid. After she gave birth to her daughter, she was on the brink of frustration. Barely getting any minute of sleep, she eventually resorted to night nanny which her brother recommended. Tully, a young and free-spirited girl came at night to help Marlo with her newborn. Tully fixed everything starting from Marlo’s sleeping routine, house cleaning and even Marlo and Drew’s marriage. The story then led into an unexpected, but expected twist which reminded us that womanhood and motherhood are sometimes too much to bear alone.
