Review: Truth or Dare, When Holiday Went to A Wrong Direction

A horror movie called “Truth or Dare” is being played on Indonesian theaters at the moment. As you might have guessed from the very obvious title, the premise followed an common game truth or dare. Directed by Jeff Wadlow, the story started off with Olivia Barron (Lucy Hale) who went on a holiday to Mexico with her bestfriend Markie Cameron, Markie’s boyfriend Lucas Moreno, along with Penelope Amari and her boyfriend Tyson Curran, and Brad Chang. She then met her friend who harassed her until a Mexican man saved her. He then invited her along with her friends to his place while playing truth or dare. The mysterious man didn’t reveal the truth that the game could result in an assassination. Those who didn’t follow the rules of the game correctly, would die or received harsh and unimaginable punishments. Olivia and her friends were trapped and could not escape the game. They could only go along and prayed that they would stay alive once the game ended.

The suspense in this movie didn’t affect the audience in a great way. It meant that it wasn’t frightening enough to make your heart skipped a beat. The predictable nature of the premises added more disappointment to this movie which was distributed by Universal Studios. It wasn’t that bad to the point of ugly, but it wasn’t a good movie as well. However, the movie did well on the box office and has managed to gain 58 million dollars from their 3.5 million dollars budget. “Truth or Dare” lasts for 100 minutes in total and also stars Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Hayden Szeto and Landon Libeiron as the main cast. Moral of the story is, don’t play a game with a mysterious stranger on a foreign land.
