You must have heard the news of Studio Ghibli‘s film screenings in Indonesia for a while now, but it might spark a question about what it is all about. The question has been answered during a press conference held yesterday (3/30) at Ritz Carlton Ballroom Jakarta. Studio Ghibli, the famous animation studio from Japan has collaborated with Kaninga Pictures, Marubeni Indonesia, and Hakuhodo DY Media Partners to do a series of event in Indonesia titled “The World of Ghibli Jakarta”. Not only film screenings, there will also be an exhibition from Studio Ghibli. Willawati, the CEO of Kaninga Pictures remarked, “We feel very proud to be trusted by Studio Ghibli to organize The World of Ghibli Jakarta as its partner. This event is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, and this is an enormous opportunity through which the actors of Indonesian creative industries can collaborate and conduct knowledge transfer directly with the Academy Award-winning animation studio, Studio Ghibli.”
The event is the result of the hard work from Indonesia’s creative workers for almost a year in making. Indonesian singer who recently has studied animation in Japan, Sherina Sinna Munaf also participated in this event. She also performed Studio Ghibli’s soundtracks during the press conference with such ease. Muhammad Bisri Mustova, a creative director and designer also contributed in making the official logo for The World of Ghibli Jakarta and re-design Studio Ghibli’s movie posters for the theatrical release in Indonesia. During the presscon, the logo was finally unveiled with the help of Kaonasi (no-face), the spirit monster who appeared on “Spirited Away”. Toshio Suzuki, Executive Director of Studio Ghibli also attended the launching and uttered his impression of the overwhelming response from Indonesian fans. As you could see, the logo mimic the shape of Totoro, Ghibli’s most loved character, that also signifies the word G which stands for “Ghibli”. It also features several scenes from Studio Ghibli’s most popular movies. The designer worked closely with the Studio Ghibli team in Japan and all of the poster and logo have been approved before perusal.
