An Intimacy Vol.13, The Triumphant Return Of Bandung’s Micro Gig

An Intimacy Vol.13 has been resurrected once again after going on months of hiatus. The routine gig took place at Spasial Warehouse Bandung on Friday, December 16th 2016, and we managed to drive through the jam packed traffic that evening to get there, but sadly we had to miss the first couple of performers, The Schuberts and Peonies. Upon entering the venue, we were welcomed with no committee or sign to show where else should we go. The invitation only system that An Intimacy applied, seems useless since no further checking or examination was implemented to the attendees. Straight to the stage area, the stage was humbly decorated with a carpet and sound system surrounding it. The crowd and the performers were blending in on the same level stage and it exudes the closeness or the intimacy that becomes the main concept of this gig.

It was hard to find a spot to see Panda Selecta who were performing that time, due to the tight and crowded audience. We settled on standing behind a few people on the row and Panda Selecta’s performance was awesome. The electro funky music that they play did not make the sweaty audience disappointed, the well-executed lighting play pleased our eyes that night. Although having minimal exposure about Panda Selecta beforehand, we thoroughly entertained by these duo electro funk who usually play their DJ set. Moving on to the next performer, we took a little break for we could not stand the high temperature of the small space. Collapse were seen preparing the stage and once again the crowd gathered in the middle, this time we were in the front row.

Collapse

Collapse, which is the solo project of Andika from ALICE hit the stage with “Prologue” and we could listen to a little influence and flavor of Whirr or Title Fight to their music. In the middle of his performance, Andika talked a little bit about his newest single that will be included in his forthcoming album next year. Without further ado, he played the tune for us. The music was so distorted and it was followed by slow and alluring drum punches which made the crowd listened in awe. The much awaited song from Collapse, “Sleepless” and “Dreaming” were finally sung and we were swayed by every guitar riffs they played. The addition of smoke and lighting on stage delivered us to “Epilogue”, the last song which closed out Collapse’s set.

Rock N Roll Mafia

After much needed break, Rock N Roll Mafia graced the stage and as the last performer, they became the magnet that attract much bigger crowd than before. Their stage was surrounded by people who danced, moved and cheered after them. We were stunned to witness the band in action, as they performed different materials than we remembered. They did much deeper exploration to their music and emphasized dance and funk more. Rock N Roll Mafia didn’t interact much or explain the song they were playing that day, but before their stage ended, they held a quiz with Warpaint Live in Jakarta ticket as the price. Wire It Up as the promoter for the California band’s show next year in Jakarta opened a presale ticket booth during An Intimacy Vol.13, so no wonder that they also did a little giveaway. Afterward, RNRM proceeded with “Zsa Zsa Zsu” to close out the night once and for all. An Intimacy Vol.13 became one of the last gig in Bandung this December that was entertaining to us. Despite all the shortcomings, we’re glad that this gig has returned and hopefully the next volume of An Intimacy would be better organized.
