It’s December and winter is coming (Game of Thrones reference is strong in this one), holiday season is upon us and what’s more relaxing than going on  a trip with your beloved ones to enjoy one of the most festive time of the year. Hong Kong could be one of the destination to make your year-end trip and if you have enough budget in your pocket you should not miss it. This year, Hong Kong Tourism Board hold an annual winter festival called “Hong Kong Winterfest 2016” which will entice the visitors with one of a kind entertainment and culinary experience. The country which is known for its great restaurants and dishes offer some of their best food that could warm your tummy in the freezing weather. Hot Pot from The Drunken Pot

A metal pot of simmering stock filled with delicious meats and veggies, which comes in a hearty portion. Who could say no to this hot dish in the middle of winter? The dish which originated from East Asian culture could be enjoyed in one of Hong Kong restaurant called The Drunken Pot. They have just opened their second outlet at V Point, Causeway Bay with a nicely decorated wall, drawn with unique graffiti. Another popular Hot Pot restaurant located at Megan Kitchen (5 / F, Lucky Centre, 165-171 Wan Chai Road, (852) 2866 8305). They are famous for serving distinctive hot pot menu, and their newest creation include Duck Soup with snow pear, chives and orange zest. Another one is Tom Yum Cappuccino that has a thick foam on top of it. The steaming stew is served in a copper hot pot and it is best enjoyed with a glass of sake.

The dish is filling and guaranteed a match for winter time. A bowl of claypot filled with warm rice and meat and grilled over charcoal sounds very mouthwatering and Hong Kong has few diners that could satisfy our hunger. Kwan Kee (263 Ratu Road West, Sai Ying Pun, (852) 2803 7209) is a 20-year-old establishment that always get people waiting in line to try their famous claypot. Their main dishes have duck, ribs, Chinese traditional sausage, beef and egg as the topping choices for the claypot rice. The burned rice underneath adds extra crunch and plus point to the dining experience. Meanwhile Chuen Bulan Kee restaurant (G / F, Man Fok Building, 419 Reklamasi Street, Mongkok, (852) 3760 8855) has special stove to cook their claypot. It uses the combination of electricity and gas to get the right consistency of the dish. Seafood like prawns and white eel become their specialty topping of the claypot rice.

As one of the cultural melting pot, Hong Kong also offers Western cuisine which is great to be eaten during winter and it is no other than barbecue. Their recommended dishes are Smoked Wagyu, Beef Short Ribs, Ham, and Roasted Chicken.

Sweet Dumplings with Sweet Walnut Soup

Spare a little room on your stomach to enjoy great Chinese dessert. Yuen Kee restaurant (G / F, 32 Centre Street, District Barat (852) 2548 8687) at Sai Ying Pun has sweet almond, black sesame, and walnut soup which is sweet and warm at the same time. Sham Shui Po ke Luk Lam Dessert (G / F, Raja Yip Building, 9 Un Chau Street, Sham Shui Po, (852) 2776 8320) offers more than 50 dessert choices on their menu. You could pick anything to your liking from traditional red bean soup, mung bean soup, black sesame dumpling soup, to sweet walnut soup. Their mango and durian pancake could also be your alternative dessert that delights your sweet tooth. Winterfest should be changed into Winterfeast with these wonderful cuisine.

Disney Sparkling Christmas

After enjoying the meals, Hong Kong also takes you to further explore their tourist attractions during Winterfest 2016. Disneyland Hong Kong shows special performances on “Disney Sparkling Christmas” where Mickey Mouse and other Disney’s characters will dress in holiday festive attire. Hong Kong Times Square holds “White Christmas” in which the visitors could feel artificial snowflakes pouring over on Snow Chamber. Next, Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show are ready to entertain the tourists with their special Christmas light show.You could also see a huge Christmas tree on Hong Kong Statue Square.
