Efek Rumah Kaca “Tiba-Tiba Suddenly Konser”: A Surprising Gig Met With Warm Crowds and Many Collaborations
Never would we ever thought that Efek Rumah Kaca will perform in a concert again, after their ‘farewell’ “Sinestesia” concert. First of all, their frontman Cholil Mahmud has gone to USA to accompany his wife to finish her study. Second, Adrian’s health forced him to rest and thus decrease the possibility of him performing on a live concert.
But all of these concerns vanished once we heard that Adrian is back on singing in their single “Merdeka”. We were glad to know that he is getting better and the return of Cholil Mahmud to Indonesia became the cherry on top. This surprising turn came true on Soundrenaline 2016 in Bali, then more surprising news arrived when Ruru Radio held a pop-up gig for ERK at Gudang Sarinah last night.
Once the news broke, the fans went berserk and filled the whole Gudang Sarinah like bees in their beehives. They were eagerly waiting in a long line just to see this concert and some weren’t even able to make it, due to over capacity of people.
“Tiba-Tiba Suddenly Konser” was like an oasis for ERK’s fans as their dream to witness the complete formation of ERK perform together again in a stage has been granted. Not only complete, the concert got even more special with appearances of guest stars to collaborate with ERK including folk duo, AriReda, Gerald Situmorang, Saleh, Danilla, Puti and many more.
It was like a half intimate concert and half mass karaoke, as fans sang along to every lyrics (the lyrics on the screen was really helpful). Ruru stated that more than a thousand people showed up in this gig, and considering the size of Gudang Sarinah, it was packed! The guest collaborators also seemed to have fun and got energized by the crowd. Some favorite numbers were sung like “Jalang”, “Di Udara”, and “Sebelah Mata”.
To end the spectacular night, “Cinta Melulu” were chosen for the closure and in the end Cholil Mahmud was held up by the people and managed to crowd surf till the back row of audience. If we didn’t know it was a concert, we would strongly believe that it was a worshipping procession or religious ceremony, with ERK as their Gods and Gudang Sarinah is the temple. We would hope to hear more good news from ERK, and we wish them to stay true to their music which touches political and social aspects of life. Safe flight back to US, Cholil!
